Who is Eligible for My Aged Care?

Eligibility for My Aged Care is primarily based on age and need. Generally, individuals aged 65 and over (or 50 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) who require assistance with daily living activities are eligible for services. An assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or the Regional Assessment Service (RAS) is necessary to determine the care level required and develop a personalised care plan.
The assessment process comprehensively evaluates the individual's health, mobility, social circumstances, and overall well-being. This helps to identify the individual's specific needs and preferences and ensures that they receive the appropriate level of support.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme provides entry-level support for older people who need assistance with daily tasks. This program is designed for those who require little help to maintain their independence and continue living at home. Services provided under the CHSP include domestic assistance, personal care, nursing care, allied health services, and social support.
This funding option is ideal for you if:
- You’re having trouble with everyday tasks and think a little support would improve your well-being.
- 65 or older (50 or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people).
- 50 or older (45 or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), on a low income and homeless, or at risk of being homeless.
Home Care Packages (HCP)
Home Care Packages offer a more comprehensive range of services based on the individual's assessed needs. They have four levels, ranging from basic to high-level care. Each package level provides different funding, allowing for a tailored mix of services to support the person’s specific needs.
Services provided under Home Care Packages can include personal care, domestic assistance, home maintenance, nursing care, allied health services, and social support.
This funding option is ideal for you if:
- You are an older person 65 or over (or 50 and over for First Nations people) who needs coordinated services to help them stay at home.
- You are a younger person with a disability, dementia, or other care needs not met through other specialist services.
