A hoist weighing scale is an attachment for a hoist. It allows a patient to be weighed whilst in a hoist. Hoist weighing scales - or hoist weighing attachments - are typically used to weigh bedbound patients, or patients who cannot stand. Marsden hoist weighing attachments clip onto the hooks or links on the spreader bar of the hoist, and the weight is measured by the downward force exerted onto the scale. The MHRA has stipulated that all hoist weighing scales are MDD Approved. Hoist weighing scales must also be Class III Approved.
Scales being used for checking adult weight records should be accurate to at least 500g; for regular weight assessment or measuring weight to assist medical diagnosis, at least 200g; and when measuring weight for critical treatment (dialysis etc), readings should be to the nearest 50g/100g.
