Quad Sticks are like Walking Sticks in how they are used, the difference is that Quad Sticks have 4 or more feet for added stability. So you can say that they're like walking sticks with a base.
This reduces the risk of patients falling as the sticks are stable, the tips are usually rubber tips to further prevent it from slipping.
There are some quad walking sticks that have a large quad base, but these can be heavier and more difficult to manoeuvre. Meanwhile a smaller one might provide less support, but is easier to lift and manoeuvre while walking.
How to use quad sticks? Three or four point sticks with an offset base should be positioned so that the straight side of the base is nearest to the body. All points of the stick should maintain contact with the ground when the stick is placed down.
To negotiate going up steps and stairs, lift the unaffected leg up first, then the stick and the affected leg onto the same step. To travel down, the stick and the affected leg should be lowered first, then the unaffected leg down to the same step.
