Guide To Bariatric Patient Lifting Hoists

Choosing the right lifting hoist is important as it allows both carers and patients to move with dignity and safely. However all lifting hoists have a Safe Weight Limit, which limits the amount of weight that they are able to carry making it difficult for bariatric patients to use them.

Fortunately there are hoists specifically designed for bariatric patients that will allow them to do the same thing as normal hoists. In today’s blog we’ll give some examples of the range of bariatric hoists that Active Mobility has on offer.

Eva600

The versatile mobile lifting hoist is suitable for all lifting situations and for patients weighing up to 270kg. Made from aluminium for a low weight of 39kg making it easy to manoeuvre around; additionally it has a mast that can be adjusted to three height positions for a larger lifting range of up to 1810mm.

The Eva600 is fitted with a wider sling bar of 600mm, which makes it ideal for bariatric patients and is available for either regular height or low legs for use with lower beds, in addition the lower legs model is fitted with double front castors with a diameter of 35mm.

The bariatric hoist has an electric base widening of up to 1150mm along with height adjustable handle bars for comfortable and ergonomic working positions. For security there is an electrical emergency stop button readily available on the control box along with both electrical and manual emergency lowering.

Forte 320

The heavy duty bariatric lifting hoist has a SWL of 320kg while still able to remain compact with an ergonomic design. Its key design features includes manoeuvrability and exceptional under bed clearance of 111mm. The Forte 320 is able to provide a superior lift space of up to 810mm thanks to both its recessed actuator and SPACE LINK technology making it ideal for institutional use where a high capacity bariatric hoist is required.

Jasmine

The Jasmine is mobile and easy to move around with a wide opening base of up to 105cm for easy access for wheelchairs/armchairs. Additionally it has a high lift mechanism of up to 192cm and is able to take up to 200kg of weight. For security the bariatric hoist has a soft start and stop button mechanism along with a control box with diagnostic system with battery status and service condition.

Oxford Presence Lifter

The mobile, aluminium bariatric hoist features an ergonomic foot pad that assists caregiver with initiating movement. Additionally there is a hand control clip that holds the pendant in place when it’s not used to prevent it from falling and becoming damaged. The Oxford has a overall SWL of 227kg.

The hoist’s powered base allows caregivers to open and close it with a touch of a button to up to 1020mm and its tapered leg design allows the disabled lifting hoist to be positioned closer to bulky objects such as commodes, wheelchairs and large chairs during transfers to a height of up to 1910mm. Additionally its sculptured base design allows caregivers to get closer to clients during transfers

Vega 505

The sturdy mobile Vega 505 is adapted for safe and easy lifting of bariatric patients of up to 230kg. Featuring a unique design with a lift arm that can be raised and lowered to either an almost upright position or all the way down to the floor.

Additionally the hoist is relatively narrow and compact making it suitable for use in areas where space is limited and it can reach practically anywhere while still having an extremely large lifting range of up to 1765mm. This makes the Vega 505 excellent for both very low and very high lifting as well as gait training.

The bariatric hoist’s design provides more space and improved comfort for both user and caregiver with an ergonomic and easy-to-use design to prevent work-related injuries. For safety it has an emergency stop button on the control box along with both manual and electrical emergency lowering.
