Need disability support in the workplace? We recommend applying for the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF). The EAF is a government-funded initiative that provides financial assistance to people with disabilities, people with mental health conditions and employers. The fund enables participants to buy work-related modifications, equipment, Auslan services and other workplace assistance/support services.
It can help cover work-related modifications and services such as:
- Making adjustments to your physical workplace
- Modifying work vehicles
- Special equipment for the workplace (including information/communication devices)
- Specialist services for employees with learning disabilities or mental health conditions
- Auslan interpreting services
- Disability awareness training for the workplace
- Mental health awareness training
- First aid training.
The EAF aims to help people find and prepare for a job or stay in their current role long-term. In this article, we dive deeper into the EAF, the application process and eligible products for supporting disability in the workplace.
Who is eligible for the EAF, and how do you apply?
The EAF is available to eligible people with disabilities who are about to start a job, are currently working or self-employed, and people who need Auslan assistance or special equipment to look for and prepare for a job.
You will need to be aware of some eligibility criteria before submitting an application for workplace disability support. Below, we have shared the EAF’s criteria and some scenarios where an application will either be approved or rejected.
Applying for workplace disability support via EAF is easy! You can submit an EAF application online via JobAccess Secure. Your application will then be processed and referred for a workplace assessment. This process can take up to 10 working days. A JobAccess Advisor will be in touch to request further documentation (if required) and to guide you through the next steps of the application process.
Your free workplace assessment
A free Workplace Modification Assessment is available through the EAF to help you work out what modifications and/or equipment you need to do your job effectively. The assessment will be completed by a JobAccess Assessor who will review your workplace, identify any barriers, and chat with you and your boss to find solutions that make your workplace more accessible for you.
Usually, a Workplace Modification Assessment is also required when applying for workplace disability support services or products worth more than $1,000. JobAccess may waive the need for an assessment, but this comes down to the application at hand.
What kind of supports are covered under the EAF?
Aside from physical workplace modifications, the EAF will cover a wide range of assistive technologies to make work easier and more accessible for you. At Active Mobility, we stock an extensive range of assistive devices that are covered under the EAF — read on!
Armon Arm Assist Devices
Armon Arm Assist Devices are specifically designed for people with upper arm disabilities and injuries, e.g. paraplegia, spinal injuries and conditions, RSI/CANS, cerebral infraction or one of many other muscular diseases. Armon devices follow the user's natural movement so their arm can move easily in any direction.
The arm's weight is compensated, significantly reducing the constant pressure on the back, neck and shoulders. Plus, it allows the user to work, shake hands and do other tasks independently!
Armon Products are available in various configurations, including left and right positioning.
