That's because sitting for extended periods of time can be uncomfortable and increase the chances of developing spinal deformities. Manual wheelchairs usually have sling-style back support, which don't provide appropriate postural support nor adequate pressure relief.
That's why rigid back supports are the most recommended type of supports to improve postural support and comfort.
This particular Zygo model has a supportive deep contour that supports the lumbar spine and thoracic spine. This makes it suitable for users with limited trunk mobility and strength; additionally its different height options allows the shell to reach the mid-thoracic or upper-thoracic region.
